Rock and Roll Piano has been around for over 50 years and piano players have left quite an impression. Rock piano players like Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Fats Domino and many more made there mark on the music scene.  Rock Piano music is usually played in straight eights with a pounding right hand playing high on the piano creating plenty of emotion when fans listen to the songs. Is the Best of Both Worlds

Being able to read music has it's advantages.  You will be able to play just about anything you want within our capabilities capabilities.  Most piano players know how to read a little but not to the point where they can pick out some sheet music, analyze it and then play it. Just knowing the melody can be enough, for instance most fake books use the melody line and chord progressions to outline songs.

Here's a very basic example of a traditional gospel hymn that has been around for a long time. Many local churches have hymn books that are mainly written for leading the congregation in songs. There's only a  piano player and one guitar player in our church and when we are playing traditional gospel hymns we keep the melody and time for the whole group of people. So I teach how to play songs a couple of different ways.   One is reading the melody line and improving the left hand.  This is the fastest way to learn gospel hymns and start playing right away.  There many ways on how to play gospel songs on piano
